RE: Auxiliary lights

I have used Nightforce Strykers and Lances on previous trucks. They are very good lights. One set of strykers was on the front of my truck at the time for 300k miles and still worked great. Yes they were the halogen ones and no way are fitting behind/in the grill. I would suspect that their LED ones are of comparable quality now whether they would fit behind the grill I have no idea on that as I have not used them, at least yet. I have a pair of Baja Designs S1 lights on my atv for additional lighting out front mostly for plowing snow at night in our driveway. They seem to be quality but they are fairly small lights so they might work only ok for driving lights on a truck driving at speed at best but would think rear/reverse lighting would be a good match for them on a truck especially in a wide/cornering beam or even a work/scene light pattern. They do make those in a flush mount as well. Have not used Rigid or any other Baja Designs lights though they both seem to be good light brands from what I have read

RE: Highway 89 in Utah

As has been said 89 is a good paved road with no issues. If you are at Kodachrome SP as long as you go north to HWY 12 then west to 89 no problem at all. If you are thinking about going south out of Kodachrome SP down to 89 then yes that is a dirt road with a fair amount of washboard. It is a long haul on a slow road with a lot of washboard and a couple of really good steep grades. Part of that road is very pretty the second half or so not so much. I have taken a popup trailer up that road from 89 up towards the State park and made it fine but it was not the smartest thing I ever did. No way would I take a motorhome, travel trailer or fifth wheel. A class B would probably be ok However since you are going to Virgin there would be no good reason to go that way since it will take longer than the highway.

RE: Leaving COLORADO heading to Tennessee

At least parts of 76 are worse than 70. Though either one once you hit Kansas on 70 or Nebraska on 80 it gets better Which one has more bad parts I cant say never measured them just disappointed in both. Have to admit not sure I would add miles to take 76.

RE: Tires- LT or ST

Goodyear Endurance tires for $450 each? Wow that seems very excessive or they sure went up in price substantially in the last year or so. I paid well under half that for them in 235/80/16 size.

RE: towing advise please

I would say yes even without the dually as 10k should not be an issue for a 350/3500 SRW. I am a far cry from the weight police crowd but my personal opinion and only my personal opinion is 10k is too much for any half ton regardless of its tow rating or payload rating, that could approach twice the weight of the tow vehicle. 350/3500's additional weight, suspension, brakes etc will certainly help add to the stability and safety factor. I realize that some 1/2 tons have higher tow ratings than 10k but a travel trailer/fifth wheel especially 38 feet long is going to behave differently than a flatbed trailer loaded to the same weight with say concrete bags or whatever equipment unless you have built a big box around it. I know on my 3500lb equipment trailer loaded down with a 9000lb skid steer tows better than my fifth wheel (10k lbs) even though it weighs 20% more.

RE: Ram fuel mileage

I do not have a Ram 2500 but a 3500. I am sure it weighs a bit more but no idea how much more. My 2022 3500 CTD, standard output with 68rfe trans, Crew Cab, Longhorn trim, 8ft bed around town for me is 16-18mpg depending on how much stop and go there is. Driving highway 65-70 it is around 19-20 have seen just over 21. Driving on the interstate at 80mph it is 18-19 mpg. The above is all above 6500 feet elevation and up to 10k elevation. Adding weight in the bed does not effect mileage much at least at steady state driving ie highway. Throwing an empty trailer into the mix almost regardless of trailer type ie 10' utility with standup wire mesh ramp (1200lb weight), 18' flat bed equipment with stand up ramps (4000lb empty weight) or 12' dump trailer (about 3000lbs) it drops down to about 15-17 on highway, throw on a 9000lb tracked skid steer and its 15 mpg at 65mpg. Throw the fifth wheel on and it drops to 12-13 sometimes below 12 but I have never seen below 11. That dang air resistance seems to come into play immediately but the fifth wheel really takes its toll aerodynamically speaking. The only one that surprises me is the small utility trailer. Every time I pull it is usually sporting a can am ATV at about 900lbs and get 15-16mpg not much better at all than the other ones empty at twice the weight and only a little bit better then when I am hauling the equipment trailer with the skid steer on it. And that combo weights more than my fifth wheel by 3000lbs (13k vs 10k). The truck has no issue pulling any of them at all. I never have a stressful drive or think the engine is working that hard. My only stress pulling any of my trailers is other drivers doing stupid stuff. It just chugs along like the weight is no problem for the engine.
